If you do have newer mysql packages installed then backleveling those may not be so simple as it may require a complete backup and restore of the mysql server database contents. If you need sanely packaged builds of things like php at a newer version than CentOS supplies then, in future, I would recommend that you investigate the IUS Community repo. Since they name their packages the same names as the CentOS supplied ones you will need to uninstall or disable their repo, do a yum clean all then yum downgrade php\* and subsequently restart your web server daemons to pick up the changes. What you really need to do is find out why whatever youre trying to run thinks it needs 5.2 and change it so that it works on 5.4.16 which is what CentOS 7 ships.
